SHELDON JONES NAMED 2021 SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR
During the LASS Fall Conference, Sheldon Jones was named the 2021 Louisiana Superintendent of the Year. In 2011, Jones was appointed superintendent of the Richland Parish School Board. From 2012 to 2018, he led the district’s effort in gaining full unitary status from its 52 year old federal desegregation order. Jones played a lead role in securing
$73.3 million in funding through sales tax renewals and bond propositions. He has presented nationally at the 2010 National Conference on Student Assessment in Minneapolis, MN and the 2019 National Conference on Education in Los, Angeles, CA. During the 2013-2014 school year, he served as Chairman of the Region VIII Superintendents’ Association. In 2018-2019, he served as Chairman of the Region VI, VII, and VIII Superintendents’ Association. Jones previously served as Secretary-Treasurer of LASS and currently serves as the association’s Vice-President. He will represent Louisiana in the National Superintendent of the Year competition held during the AASA 2021 National Conference on Education on February 18-19, 2021.
